Now it is time to drive the road that goes into the Denali National Park.
The elevation in the Denali area is higher than the other places we have been recently, and that results in the Fall colors turning before the rest of the area. Whatever the reason, we are thoroughly enjoying the color show.
Finally we arrived at the entrance of the park.
We can only drive another 13-14 miles into the park. Other than that, the public is forbidden to enter in private vehicles. There are buses run by the National Park that will take you, for a fee, on guided tours further into the park.
Having taken the six-hour bus tour when we were here three years ago, we opted to just drive the 14 miles ourselves.
The colors are spectacular along the road.
I can’t get over the beauty of the red ground cover. There are several plants here that turn red, and except for spent fireweed, I can’t identify the others. I only know it is amazingly beautiful.
Out in the red brush, we spotted a cow moose with her calf. Unfortunately, she wasn’t interested in facing us for a better photo op. So I take what I can get.
Again, I am not going to write a lot about the following pictures, just show them to you. They pretty much speak for themselves. So enjoy!
After our drive through the park, we went on a road not far from where we took the ATV rides, but further out. The terrain was a little different, but still so beautiful.
It was a little less treed, but with great mountain vistas.
There is a hotel in the town of Denali that sits at the top of a mountain. We drove up there to get a view of the valley and they brilliant colors.
The three ladies who come on the tour with us, drove all the way from Florida by themselves. They bought a brand new motorhome for the trip.
New motorhomes have a reputation for needing one or two years to get all the bugs worked out of them.
It was no different for the ladies. Somewhere along the way, the motor on their slide just refused to slide anymore and the guys had to push it back in. After this little episode, they just left it in for the rest of the trip.
Sunday mornings, Spike always has what he calls, “Prayer Group.”
On this Sunday morning in Denali, there was no pavilion to use, so with me introducing him…
Don performed Nicodemus out in the chilly, damp parking lot among the RV’s. We were right next to one of the smelliest outhouses I have ever come in contact with. Oh, well.
Then is was time to hit the road again. We are off to Anchorage for five days of adventures there.
