The road from Soldotna to Glennallen, through the Mat-su Valley is one of Alaska’s most beautiful routes. However there are many frost heaves that require one to drive slowly or risk doing major damage to the vehicle.
More than one tow car has ‘learned to fly’ behind an RV on this road.
Frost heaves aside, the beauty of this road in the Fall of the year only increases the reason to drive it.
When we entered the Kenai Peninsula just a few days ago, the color here was mostly green. Now the Fall colors are vibrant and increasing, it seems, by the mile.
We ran in and out of rain on this day, making photography more challenging from a moving vehicle. Other than that, there is not a lot to be said about our trip to Glennallen, so I will just let you look out the window of the RV along with me. See if you can find words to describe it besides, “Wow!!”
We arrived in Glennallen under the shadow of Mt. Elias, one of the three highest peaks in Alaska.
We happily find a couple of others sporting bright orange stickers on their rigs in the same RV park where we are spending the night.
Tomorrow, we are officially headed out of Alaska. We are beginning to crave being back home.
